EU Authorizes Mushrooms Exposed To Ultraviolet Light To Increase Vitamin D2 As A New Source Of Food

On July 17, 2018, the European Commission issued a regulation, (EU) 2018 / 1011, according to the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EU) 2015 / 2283, authorizing the use of UV irradiated mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), which increases vitamin D2 content, as a new source of food, and amending the European Commission's implementing rules (EU) 17 / 2470 attachment. The maximum content of vitamin D2 in mushroom was determined to be 20 μ g / 100 g fresh weight. This Regulation shall enter into force 20 days after the publication of the official Gazette of the EU.
