A total of 106 phenolic compounds, including 68 gallate tannins, 25 flavonoids, gallic acid, catechin, epicatechin and 9 other types of gallic acid, were identified by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. Polyphenols, which have great potential for application, are the 75 new species that are first reported in scientific research.

However, these active ingredients are more than just binding to elastin. In previous work, researchers have found that GCGs can also reduce inflammation damage to the skin, while weakening skin spots, such as freckles and age spots.

The product, called Maplifa, is sold through Verdure Sciences, a plant extract supplier based in India, and is trying to find new markets in the dietary supplements and cosmetics industry.
